Anxiety

Generalised Anxiety Disorder:

GAD is a form of anxiety that presents in a variety of settings and is characterised by worries about many different things. When you feel anxious you may feel like your thoughts are always racing, a churning or tight feeling in your stomach, increased heart rate or breathing, headaches and an inability to focus or concentrate.

Social Anxiety:

Social anxiety has similar physiological symptoms to GAD but presents in social situations. A fear of public speaking, walking in late to a class, performing tasks in front of others, a preoccupation with what others think of you or a fear of making a mistake can all be signs of social anxiety.

Health Anxiety:

Health anxiety can be classed as an obsessive compulsive disorder due to the nature in which someone experiences intensive fears of having, contracting or spreading an undiagnosed illness or disease and often results in compulsive checking and reassurance seeking behaviours or safety behaviours such as avoidance, washing etc.

Phobia:

A phobia is an overwhelming fear of somewhere, someone or something which is both distressing and debilitating. Its more than just being scared of something it develops when someone has an exaggerated or irrational sense of danger. Depending on the phobia life can become restricted due to avoidance and can generate an extreme sense of anxiety, apprehension and panic.
